One Really Big Mirror

Designer Todd Prince just finished up part of a project that we are all going crazy over! This HUGE, custom designed mirror is just what this big, beautiful dining room needed!

Designer Todd Prince for SummerHouse // Ridgeland, MS

About the space:
Todd says the solid masonry wall in this dining room needed something reflective to open up the space. His first thought was to do a really, REALLY big mirror.

About the mirror:
This bad boy is ELEVEN feet high by NINE feet wide! That's 99 square feet of mirror! Brown's Fine Art and Framing in Jackson, who made this custom masterpiece, had to rent a space to construct it because it was bigger than what they had the space to make in their shop!

The frame was custom made and custom finished by hand. The frame finish was originally a solid silver, but Allison at Brown's made it look a little more aged.

Not only did Allison hand finish the frame, but also the rosettes used at the corner of every 20" x 20" piece of mirror used to create the full reflective surface.

"BIG shout out Allison Simmons at Brown. She did a fantastic job," Todd says.

Here are a couple more photos of this beautiful home, holiday ready, for your viewing pleasure!

Christmas In The South

Last year, we had the wonderful opportunity to share with the readers of Small Shop Studio's blog about Christmas in the South. Since December 25th is only a couple of weeks away, we felt it appropriate to share the content of this post again! View the full post over at Small Shop, or enjoy the highlights here:

“Not surprisingly, the first three states
to make Christmas a legal holiday were in the South:
Alabama in 1836, Louisiana and Arkansas in 1838.”

Beautiful design never sleeps,
particularly during the holidays…

You see, Christmas is a central part of
the holiday season here in the South. A family outing to pick the
perfect tree is as established a tradition as celebrating a birthday.
Making wassail or hot toddys is as much a custom as tailgating before
the season opening home football game. Here in the South, we start
planning parties and buying decorations while still in our shorts and
sandals. Christmas down South is a big deal, to say the
least!

Just as personalities vary from person
to person, so do our clients and their own personal style of holiday
décor. It is always important to us southerners to incorporate our
most treasured, passed down ornaments and traditions into our home
along with current, newly found pieces. Modern, traditional, natural
… We get requests for it all! We hope you enjoy the photos of these
three [very different!] houses.

Guest Post: Divine Dining Rooms

Hi SummerHouse readers! It is such an honor to be guest posting at SummerHouse, and thanks to the awesome ladies who made it possible!
- Enjoy! Ashley@Decorology

I'd say that the dining room is probably the room I talk about the least. One major part of that is probably because I've never had a proper dining room, and because even after spending hours in the kitchen preparing a beautiful meal, you're likely to find me enjoying it curled up on the couch.

However, I'm coming to realize that now that we are looking for a home, I might actually have a real grown up dining room, and once I have kids we will not be dining on the sofa. Also, the upcoming holidays are probably when dining rooms see the most action, so I've gathered up some dining rooms to inspire me (and other dining room neglecters like myself) to give it a little more attention. Your sofa will thank you!!

I wish I was genius enough to put together spaces like this... those benches with that wallpaper? Sublime. I also think that's the closest to sofa-like one can get to proper dining room seating! Oh, and did I mention those windows!?!

Okay. Can we talk about that amazing gold chandelier?!?! There is very little I wouldn't do for that chandelier....very. little.

Proof that gorgeous floors should go naked, even beneath a table and chairs.

I adore the mix between the table and chairs in this room, as well as the architectural details. I'm also always a big fan of large, impactful pieces of artwork. I might not have chosen this photo in particular, but you can see how it adds drama to the space.
