Outdoor Oasis

Designer Todd Prince and his lovely assistant Tina had quite a busy week last week! They had two major installs, both of which we're excited to tell you about! One was interior and one was exterior, so today we're sharing the exterior one! With the lovely weather we had over the weekend, it just seems appropriate to keep up the spirit of outdoor entertaining...

This beautiful outdoor oasis is open, breezy, and (of course) weather proof! Todd picked all of the furniture from a couple of our favorite outdoor lines: Lee Industries and Summer Classics. It all blends together so perfectly!

All of the custom detail (like the custom banding on the bottom of the dining chairs, and the specially made drapery hardware) make this space interesting and personal as well as beautiful.

With our big Barry Dixon event only a week away, we figure it's time to start letting y'all in on some of the details!
Along with the help of our friends and neighbors at Calistoga Wine, we have come up with a signature cocktail for the event
and we're calling it The Mason Dixon.

The Mason Dixon is a spirited sipper with a mix of delicious personalities like rosemary, lemon, and cucumber...
Sounds just right for a warm southern night, doesn't it?! Come try one on May 9th at SummerHouse from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.,
and bring a little appetite with you as well! Award-winning chef Derek Emerson from Walker's and Local 463 is doing the food. Try Braised Pork Belly and Cheddar Biscuits on for size... Yeah, this event is not to be missed!

Decorating for a Cause

On Sunday, December 11th, Reunion (a neighborhood in Madison) hosted their annual Tour of Homes where people could buy tickets to view five beautiful homes all decorated for Christmas. This is something Reunion does each year to help raise money for various area charities chosen by the homeowners. We had the pleasure this year of helping one of our favorite families get their home ready for the tour. The charity this family chose to help was the Mississippi Children's Museum. Take a look at their beautiful home, made even more beautiful with a little help from Marty and Melanie!

Lisa has helped this wonderful family with their home for years and years and has done a beautiful job, don't you think?! The last two photos are of the most recently completed bedroom belonging to the family's youngest daughter. It turned out so nicely!

*Thanks to our friend Rachel Kabukala for all of her gorgeous photographs!*

We hope you're having a lovely holiday season so far! Can you believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve?!

Fall Cocktail with a Kick!

Are y'all familiar with Pinterest? It's a pretty neat website where people can post (or "pin") photos that interest/inspire them. Pin+interest is where the name comes from! Anyway, we found this really cool sounding recipe over there and thought it sounded interesting enough to share! Since the holidays are just weeks away, we thought we'd get you in the spirit with this cool-weather cocktail. The twist? This recipe includes TOBASCO sauce! Check it out:

Bar Exam {the fun kind!}

Before you revert back to bad memories of law school, your husband being in law school, your friend being in law school, your sister being in law school.... Someone you know being in law school.... Let me explain! This is a FUN bar exam! We want to look over some great ideas for home bar setup, as well as what you need to have in your own home bar. Let's start with some great examples of pretty bars, then we'll move on to the grocery list!

What are some things we can learn from these photos?

1. It is good to have your home bar stocked with a variety of liquors and liqueurs.
2. Each of these beautiful bars has some interesting accessories closeby (like plants, books, heirloom looking pieces, and other unique finds.)
3.  An intersting piece of furniture or cart or tray add a lot to a bar setup.

What do I need to have in my own home bar?

After some research, we found that the home bar should include the following items:

[caption id="attachment_2941" align="alignright" width="273" caption="a lovely cocktail"][/caption]

mid to high end vodka
mid to high end whiskey or bourbon
mid to high end tequila
mid to high end rum (best to have a white and a dark)
mid to high end gin
a simple brandy

Malibu Rum
Triple Sec or Cointreau

Mixers: Tonic Water, Sparkling water, Fruit juices, Both light and dark sodas, Tomato Juice

Garnishes: Lemon, Lime, Sugar or Simple Syrup, Salt, Mint, Ice, Olives, Cherries

Wines: Light bodied red, Full bodied red, Sweet white, and Dry white.

Other important items: Wine glasses, high ball glasses, cocktail napkins, stirring spoons/straws, corkscrew, and a little black book of cocktail recipes!

Have fun getting your own home bar ready for your next party!

A Summer Soiree, SummerHouse style!

As many of you know, we love Rue Magazine. Everything they put in their magaizne is brilliant. It may not be our style, but brilliant, nonetheless. In the most recent issue, we were taken with the Sunset Soiree! Here's our take on a similar party, with local resources so you can get all you need right here in the Jackson area! :)

Here's the party that has us so inspired...

...And here are our picks as to where in the area you can get the goodies to make this party happen!

May we recommend enlisting the services of Cultigraphic Creative, a graphic design group started by a couple of native Jacksonians. They can do whatever you want! Here is a sample of their creative handiwork:

We have a lot of beautiful, whimsy votives that would be perfect to scatter amongst flowers on your table. These from Roost, for example, are an all-time favorite amongst the SummerHouse girls!

[caption id="attachment_2481" align="aligncenter" width="420" caption="Roost knows best! :) "][/caption]

Speaking of flowers... We are in love with Tulip Floral, located in the Duling School building over in Fondren. Here's a small sample of the amazing stuff that Lesley can do!

[caption id="attachment_2490" align="aligncenter" width="390" caption="Tulip Floral"][/caption]

What is a Southern summer party without petit fours? We happen to love what Primo's has to offer in the petit four arena. They do them up right!

[caption id="attachment_2487" align="aligncenter" width="438" caption="Adorable, summery petit fours are a MUST!"][/caption]

Champagne is another necessity at a summer party. Enjoyed by itself, or mixed with a fruit juice, chilled champagne makes any fun party just a teeny bit MORE fun!  Calistoga Wine and Spirits, next door to SummerHouse, carries the Sophia Coppola one (complete with pink wrapper!)

Everyday Gourmet (also located just a couple of doors down from us!) has these beautiful, non-traditional Riedel champagne glasses available. How adorable are these?!

[caption id="attachment_2488" align="aligncenter" width="230" caption="Riedel Champagne flutes available at Everyday Gourmet"][/caption]

Now that we have invitations, decor, food and drinks nailed down, there is just one thing left we'd like to suggest! That would be...

This little beauty comes from Anthropologie. And it is called the Junebug dress... This is perfect for any hostess to wear. It would flatter any body type and it totally fits the theme of the party!

Shop Local Social UPDATE!

Happy Friday to all!

We've ordered some really fun decorations for our SHOP LOCAL SOCIAL photo booth and they have started coming in!! We are going with a "browns, creams, and coraly oranges with a shot of turquoise" color theme!.  We are in LOVE with these tissue pom poms from our new favorite etsy shop

We are also pretty excited about the props we ordered from The Paper Stache... This picture will give you an idea of what you'll have to choose from while cheezing in front of the camera!

Ladies, did we mention that our photographer, Byron Wilkes, recently won the award for "Best Arm Candy" at the Jackson Free Press Chick Ball?  We can't wait to meet him... We hear he is pretty awesome!

To our VIP's:  Get excited! The swag bags are filling right up! We add something new to them pretty much every day! :)  As of this very moment, we have ten VIP spots left to fill.  We will find our last ten lucky winners next week.  If YOU want to be a VIP and your name is not already on the list, all you have to do is keep a really close watch on our Facebook page.  When we post a status update to the effect of, "Be one of the next three people to comment on this post and you'll get a spot on our VIP list!," then you comment at that time, on that post, and you're golden!

We look forward to seeing ALL of you at the party! With your friends. In your party gear. Ready to go!

See you on Thursday, 4/28 from 5:00 to 8:30!! Can't wait!
