Photo Shoot at a Pretty House

Yesterday, we had a great time at a dear client's beautiful home getting set up for a photo shoot for the Mistletoe Marketplace Steering Committee!

Residence designed by SummerHouse // Ridgeland, MS

Talented photographer Allison Muirhead got some great shots of the fun Junior League gals (and talking to all of them got us excited about Mistletoe Marketplace even though it's not until November!)

While the photo session was going on, we walked around the rest of the house and snapped a few shots of this GORGEOUS home. Here are a few teasers... More photos to come in the very near future!

"Home Away From Home" Master Bedroom Design

Lisa and Elish have a beautiful ongoing project with a very dear client who lives in a fantastic Fondren home, and the master bedroom in this home has recently been completed!

Lisa on this bedroom:

"When I first met with my client, the first thing I noticed about this room was that the original furnishings were out of scale. The bed was too small for the space, the side tables were too small, and the rug was too small. So my challenge was to make sure that the pieces I selected would fit in this very large room with large walls and tall ceilings."

"My client wanted a sitting area where they could watch television, but they also wanted to be able to watch television from their bed, so I had that challenge too."

"The client wanted the bedroom to be a "home away from home." My design approach was to make it light and airy and soft so I chose fabrics that were a mixture of natural linen, velvet, and even a washable velvet on the swivel chairs and ottoman in the sitting area. When you're going white on upholstery, that kind of thing is important!"

"There's a lot of custom work in this space as well. The bed, the etagere, the desk, and the side tables were all custom made. In fact, the desk was touched by four different artisans!"

"There was some renovation in the space as well. We changed an old, low cased archway by raising it and adding old beams. We redesigned the fireplace, mantle, and stonework to give it a fresh look. And we repainted all the walls."

"The room is now updated, bright, and I think really beautiful."

This is what we call a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
What is your favorite aspect of this space?

Little Teaser

We've got a little treat for you today! Here is a peek at a house that is still underway, but nearing completion. Lisa and Elish have been working on this project for months now, and seeing the finish product always makes the hard work so worth while!

Is this not one of the most fabulous kitchens you've ever seen?! We are all flipping out over how beautiful this room is!

Stay tuned for more pictures of the whole house once it's complete!!

Color Issue Sneak Peek!

Our new friend Aarean, editor and publisher of the beautiful new blog Color Issue, asked us to do a guest blog post for her talking about how to add warmth to a room. Her blog focuses on the importance of color, so several of us gave our two cents about the importance of warmth in interiors! The post is scheduled to go live tomorrow (Saturday, 11/19) on the Color Issue site, so keep your eyes peeled! Here's a sneak peek at one of the rooms we thought was a great use of color to create warmth.
Be sure to read the full post tomorrow!

**11/21 Addendum: Due to a mix-up with Aarean's scheduling sofware and the fact that she is out of town, it will be next week before this post goes up! We are still very excited about it and hope you are too!**

Meet Elish Phares

Have you been by the store to meet Elish yet?  She is Lisa's amazing new assistant!! (Laurel is starting a new chapter and is no longer a full-timer at the store, but is still doing all of the social media, so she's still around!)

Elish is a great addition to the SummerHouse team and is fitting right in! :) Her organization skills, eye for fashion (both in interiors and in wearable fashion), and her cute personality make her a joy to work with! Let's get to know her a little better, shall we?

SummerHouse: So your name is kinda different but super pretty!! Can you tell us a little bit about the origination of that?

Elish: My name....my mom’s family is Italian and Elizabeth is the trademark family name that gets worked in somehow on every girl’s name. My Dad is Irish, so they compromised and named me Elish which is gaelic for Elizabeth. Hence, the odd name.

SummerHouse: What has been the biggest shock about your new job at SummerHouse?! You've only been here a few weeks, but there has to be something that surprised you or caught you offguard!

Elish: I think my biggest shock at Summerhouse was how much of the business side of Interior Design I’d be doing...

SummerHouse: What is your favorite thing to cook and why?

Elish: My favorite thing to cook is either my chicken pesto salad because I made it up and it’s pretty different from traditional chicken salad. Or I love cooking crawfish fettuccine...I have a great recipe that isn’t too hard but tastes great!

SummerHouse: What is your favorite movie? Why?

Elish: Hmmm favorite movie is a tough one...I’d say Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken because I grew up watching it and I’m a sucker for those kinds of movies. Or Last of the Mohicans...I always watch it with my dad and the music is incredible.

SummerHouse: How would you describe your own personal design style?

Elish: My personal design style is better described by the designers I respect...in fashion, as well as interior design. I love Alberta Ferretti, Kelly Wearstler, Zac Posen, Elizabeth & James, Robert Kuo... I’m usually drawn to clean lines broken up by rich textiles, any type of sleek surface like mirrors and metallic finishes, & cool colors or grayed neutrals.

SummerHouse: When you are not partaking in your new favorite hobby, which is to work at SummerHouse, what are your other hobbies?!

Elish: Well I love running and being outside so that’s a pretty big hobby, I love to cook and have people over for dinner, & I have 4 nephews and a brand new little niece that I love to visit! :)

SummerHouse: Tell us one weird thing about you that we may find interesting, or that not many people know

Elish: One weird thing? So hard to choose....haha Well I am an OCD bed maker. It’s weird. I make mine every morning no matter what. Even if I know I’m going to wash my sheets that night. And I sometimes can’t help myself and make other peoples beds...It makes the whole room look instantly put together!

SummerHouse: Anything else you want us to know?! :)

Elish: I love working at Summerhouse and I’m thankful I have so many amazing, sweet people to be around everyday!
