Tranquil Retreat in Delta Magazine

Our very own Elizabeth Gullett was featured in the latest issue of Delta Magazine! This tranquil retreat out in Brandon has a very beachy feel, specifically designed by Elizabeth to compliment the home's location on the water! When we went out for this shoot, we really did feel like we were on vacation when really we were only minutes from home!

You may remember seeing a few behind-the-scenes shots in this blog post from a few weeks back.

Now, we give you... The actual spread!

Meet New Designer Casey Jenkins!

SummerHouse Designer Casey JenkinsSummerHouse Interior Designer Casey Jenkins is brand new to our little family up here and she's doing a great job of fitting right in!

We've loved getting to know her, so now is your turn to learn all about Casey with this little Q&A!

Q: Tell us a little about yourself! Where you're from, where you went to school, what you majored in...

A: I grew up in Brandon, MS in a home my mom designed and dad built! I attended Mississippi State University, majored in Interior Design, and was a Chi Omega! Go STATE!

Q: When did you first realize that you wanted to be an interior designer?

A: Growing up I always knew I enjoyed the idea of having my own business one day, and in fact, it took a year of classes in General Business to realize my love was Interior Design! After touring the studio I transferred and squeezed 4 years of design in 3! Absolutely love what I do!

Q: We hear you have some four-legged friends running around at your house! Tell us about them! :)

A: The divas are Millie Mae (too cool for anybody!) , Mollie Moo (we aren't even sure what she is?), and Little Bit (our main most diva)!

Q: What is your favorite thing do on a day or weekend off?

A: I absolutely LOVE to travel! Colorado last week to hit the slopes and D.C. next weekend for Ball on the Mall! When I am home, I crank up the push lawn mower and absolutely love edging my yard?! No really. Anything outdoors!

Q: What's the best movie you've seen recently?

A: Olympus Has Fallen! Gave me nightmares and I believe I was fighting off terrorists that night in my sleep. Gerald Butler was an amazing actor! Proud to be an American.

Q: Where is the coolest/best/most awesome place you've ever visited?

A: To this day, the cruise to Alaska we took as a family has remained to be one of my fondest memories. Words simply can not describe seeing enormous glaciers falling into the ocean, the wildlife, and swimming in heated pools in the middle of icey waters!

Q: In your short time here so far, have you developed any major crushes on any pieces on the showroom floor?!

A: Easy question! I am in love with Barry Dixon's antique screens displayed so beautiful! Looking forward to having him here with us May 9th!

[{ Find out more on our upcoming Barry Dixon event here! }]

Q: How would you describe your personal style as far as interiors?

A: Hard to narrow down, but generally speaking, I love layers! Depending on the client's space, I enjoy keeping things clean but cozy! Todd Prince would laugh, but I tend to over use the word "transitional".

Q: What's an interesting fact about you that your co-workers may not know about you yet?! :)

A: I did competitive swimming for 8 years and traveled most of the Southeast for weekly competitions! It taught me a lot of self discipline and time management. I love the friendships I have to this day from those interactions!

Meet Todd Prince

[caption id="attachment_3490" align="alignright" width="307" caption="Our newest designer Todd Prince"][/caption]

Help us welcome our newest designer to SummerHouse... Mr. Todd Prince! Todd is a Mississippi native and has just moved back from California to be closer to family, and of course to take one of the most exciting jobs in the South: a job as a designer with us!! :) We love having Todd around to help balance out our heavily weighted female staff!

To help you get to know Todd a little better, we asked him a few questions...

Laurel: Can you give us a nutshell of your background in interior design?

Todd: I opened Todd Prince interiors in Jackson in 1997. I then worked at JTM tile in Jackson before going to work with Walker Zanger Tile and Stone in June of 2000. I worked for Walker Zanger for 11 years. I worked as the branch manager of the Walker Zanger in Atlanta, San Francisco and Orange County, CA.

Laurel: Even though we know you can design around whatever look it is that your client is going for, what is your personal design style?

Todd: My personal style is probably a throw back to the 50's modern style.  I love retro pieces mixed into interiors.  I think they give rooms a fresh updated feel when mixed with items that are more transitional.  I do love eclectic interiors that are interesting and textural.

Laurel: So far, what's been the hardest part about moving back to MS from California?

Todd: What I miss most about CA is the weather!!  There is very little humidity there unlike Mississippi.  It is very easy to get used to no humidity!!

Laurel: What really gets your creative juices flowing? A certain designer's website, certain types of books, going to certain types of places..?

Todd: I am an avid reader...I love shelter magazines, mystery novels and southern fiction.  I get alot of creativity from reading.  Music is also very inspiring to me.  I love jazz....give me a some Diana Krall and a great glass of wine and I'm good to go!!!!

Laurel: If we were to secretly follow you around on a lazy Sunday, what might we find you doing?!

Todd: If you followed me on a lazy Sunday afternoon you'd find me in the kitchen.  I love to cook.  It relaxes me.  The best part is when you are done relaxing you have great food to enjoy!!!

Laurel: Anything else you'd like to share with our readers?

Todd:  I have a great family.  That is the best part of being back in MS.  Being able to spend time with my family without airplanes involved is great!!!

Thank you so much, Todd!! We are all so excited to have you on the team and can't wait for all the fun the future holds! :)

Color Issue Sneak Peek!

Our new friend Aarean, editor and publisher of the beautiful new blog Color Issue, asked us to do a guest blog post for her talking about how to add warmth to a room. Her blog focuses on the importance of color, so several of us gave our two cents about the importance of warmth in interiors! The post is scheduled to go live tomorrow (Saturday, 11/19) on the Color Issue site, so keep your eyes peeled! Here's a sneak peek at one of the rooms we thought was a great use of color to create warmth.
Be sure to read the full post tomorrow!

**11/21 Addendum: Due to a mix-up with Aarean's scheduling sofware and the fact that she is out of town, it will be next week before this post goes up! We are still very excited about it and hope you are too!**

Meagan is ENGAGED!

Our very own Meagan Burks and her (now) fiance Ben are tying the knot!! They've been dating for, let's see, forever! So it's about time they get engaged! :) We are so excited for them!

[caption id="attachment_3123" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Meagan Burks"][/caption]

This enagement serves as another PERFECT time to remind you about our Bridal Registry called Invest in your Nest! It's so simple and easy, every bride will find our registry to be her favorite! Click here to get over to the page that describes how the registry works. And congrats again to Meagan and Ben!!

New from Schumacher

Our fabulous Schumacher rep, Jim, stopped in last week to show us what's new from them this season!   There were several fabrics we absolutely fell in love with.  Beth was able to pull together an entire project just from what he showed us!  We saw a lot of patterns, particularly florals, that we liked.  Here are a few:
