The Mason Dixon: What It Is & Where To Get One

With our big Barry Dixon event only a week away, we figure it's time to start letting y'all in on some of the details!
Along with the help of our friends and neighbors at Calistoga Wine, we have come up with a signature cocktail for the event
and we're calling it The Mason Dixon.

The Mason Dixon Signature Cocktail for the May 9th Barry Dixon event at SummerHouse | Ridgeland, MS

The Mason Dixon is a spirited sipper with a mix of delicious personalities like rosemary, lemon, and cucumber...
Sounds just right for a warm southern night, doesn't it?! Come try one on May 9th at SummerHouse from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.,
and bring a little appetite with you as well! Award-winning chef Derek Emerson from Walker's and Local 463 is doing the food. Try Braised Pork Belly and Cheddar Biscuits on for size... Yeah, this event is not to be missed!
WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT THURSDAY!

Bar Exam {the fun kind!}

Before you revert back to bad memories of law school, your husband being in law school, your friend being in law school, your sister being in law school.... Someone you know being in law school.... Let me explain! This is a FUN bar exam! We want to look over some great ideas for home bar setup, as well as what you need to have in your own home bar. Let's start with some great examples of pretty bars, then we'll move on to the grocery list!

What are some things we can learn from these photos?

1. It is good to have your home bar stocked with a variety of liquors and liqueurs.
2. Each of these beautiful bars has some interesting accessories closeby (like plants, books, heirloom looking pieces, and other unique finds.)
3.  An intersting piece of furniture or cart or tray add a lot to a bar setup.

What do I need to have in my own home bar?

After some research, we found that the home bar should include the following items:

mid to high end gin
a simple brandy

Liqueurs:

Mixers: Tonic Water, Sparkling water, Fruit juices, Both light and dark sodas, Tomato Juice

Garnishes: Lemon, Lime, Sugar or Simple Syrup, Salt, Mint, Ice, Olives, Cherries

Wines: Light bodied red, Full bodied red, Sweet white, and Dry white.

While we are on the topic of parties, what is a party without a signature cocktail?! We found a couple of recipes that sounded pretty delicious.  Take your pick!! :)

We hope all of you have a very safe and happy new year!  Thanks to all of you for being so meaningful to us.  What would we do without all of you?!  Have a great holiday, and until next year..... CHEERS!

July 4th is here!

We wanted to share one of our favorite summer drink recipes with you, just in case you are looking for something a little different to take along to your Fourth of July cookout!  Make enough to share, and you’re guaranteed to be the most popular one at the party!

The BEST Margarita recipe:
1 can limeade concentrate
1 cup tequila
2 light beers
Lemon-lime soda to taste (about 1 or 2 cups)
1 or 2 limes, sliced

Mix all ingredients together in a pitcher, pour over ice, and enjoy!

This is the perfect drink to help you combat the hot Mississippi weather we’ve been battling!  The lemon-lime soda is what gives this recipe a little extra zing; it is very crisp and refreshing.  There are also lots of ways to vary this recipe to keep it exciting!  You could use zero calorie soda to make it a little lighter, or lime flavored beer to make it extra limey.  One time, we even used orange flavored beer, and cut up oranges instead of limes for a fun twist!  Yum... ENJOY!
