"Home Away From Home" Master Bedroom Design

Lisa and Elish have a beautiful ongoing project with a very dear client who lives in a fantastic Fondren home, and the master bedroom in this home has recently been completed!

Lisa on this bedroom:

"When I first met with my client, the first thing I noticed about this room was that the original furnishings were out of scale. The bed was too small for the space, the side tables were too small, and the rug was too small. So my challenge was to make sure that the pieces I selected would fit in this very large room with large walls and tall ceilings."

"My client wanted a sitting area where they could watch television, but they also wanted to be able to watch television from their bed, so I had that challenge too."

"The client wanted the bedroom to be a "home away from home." My design approach was to make it light and airy and soft so I chose fabrics that were a mixture of natural linen, velvet, and even a washable velvet on the swivel chairs and ottoman in the sitting area. When you're going white on upholstery, that kind of thing is important!"

"There's a lot of custom work in this space as well. The bed, the etagere, the desk, and the side tables were all custom made. In fact, the desk was touched by four different artisans!"

"There was some renovation in the space as well. We changed an old, low cased archway by raising it and adding old beams. We redesigned the fireplace, mantle, and stonework to give it a fresh look. And we repainted all the walls."

"The room is now updated, bright, and I think really beautiful."

This is what we call a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Decorating for a Cause

On Sunday, December 11th, Reunion (a neighborhood in Madison) hosted their annual Tour of Homes where people could buy tickets to view five beautiful homes all decorated for Christmas. This is something Reunion does each year to help raise money for various area charities chosen by the homeowners. We had the pleasure this year of helping one of our favorite families get their home ready for the tour. The charity this family chose to help was the Mississippi Children's Museum. Take a look at their beautiful home, made even more beautiful with a little help from Marty and Melanie!

Lisa has helped this wonderful family with their home for years and years and has done a beautiful job, don't you think?! The last two photos are of the most recently completed bedroom belonging to the family's youngest daughter. It turned out so nicely!

*Thanks to our friend Rachel Kabukala for all of her gorgeous photographs!*

We hope you're having a lovely holiday season so far! Can you believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve?!

Creepy Chic

In honor of Halloween (which is only a couple of days away... How did it get here so fast!?), we've put together a small collection of Creepy Chic rooms, decorated with unconventional or just downright creepy art and accessories.

Skulls on the wall? Creepy art over the bed? (Maybe in the living room, yeah, but right over your head as you sleep at night? A little scary!) These designers know just how to incorporate these into a livable space without seeming terribly frightening! (Photos collected from Lonny and Rue)

A skull sits right there on the table between those two chairs. This family must not have any kids!
Not only does this artwork have a slightly scary flair to it, but that hand on the cocktail table could really creep a girl out!
Such a beautiful, serene room. Then you notice the eyeball in the piece of art on the right! Wow...
Skulls in the bookshelf
Skulls on the wall... This skull is actually pretty cool and funky!
Try falling asleep at night with this crazy lady hanging over your head.... NOOO THANK YOU!

Got some other good photos we could add to our collection? Post them on our Facebook wall and you just might win a fun prize! We wish you a Creepy Chic Halloween!! Be careful out there this weekend!

Shelf Help

Let's face it. We could all use a little help when arranging our bookshelves. Books, trinkets, pieces of art, sculptures, pottery, etc.... How can you make it all work? We searched the pages of some of our favorite reads to bring you a little "shelf help!"

All of these photos came from Rue, Lonny, and the Domino book. We love how these designers have used outside-the-box ideas to make things like butterfly collections and big boxes fit into the scheme! The designers at SummerHouse are all PROS at bookshelf arrangement, so if you need help, you know who to call! :)

Bookshelf Inspiration

To carry over the bookshelf theme from Friday, here are some inspring pictures to guide you in designing your own bookshelves!  These beautiful photos are from LonnyMag (our favorite!)   Take a look...

Scared to do your own bookshelves?  Not quite sure how to make your collectibles look right?  Call us! We have six designers who all happen to be bookshelf PRO'S!!
