Oxford Condo Before and After

Here's a great BEFORE and AFTER to get your day started off on the right foot!

This Oxford, MS condo, designed by Todd Prince, is the perfect example of how to do a LOT in a small space!

Here's what Todd was working with:

And here is how Todd transformed this space

[caption id="attachment_2134" align="aligncenter" width="550"]SummerHouse Before & After AFTER[/caption]

According to Todd, the client wanted to fit as much seating as possible into the small living room since they do a good bit of entertaining, particularly during football season. The client's personal style is a little bit dressy, but things also needed to be family friendly, so Todd incorporated a pair of tight back sofas, some durable linen chairs (which you can't see), and some movable Hickory Chair benches that are just as beautiful as they are purposeful. These can be moved all over the condo to provide extra seating wherever needed!

The client's artwork was the starting point for what turned out to be a beautiful space! Kudos on a great job, Todd!

A Comfortable and Elegant Before + After

We've got another fabulous Before + After for you guys today! Designer Elizabeth Gullett has successfully taken a room with great bones from lackluster to lust-worthy! Even though the finished product is fairly tonal, Elizabeth's combination of textures makes this room amazingly interesting!

But before you can see this beautiful room, take a look at the BEFORE photos:

See? Pretty room, just in need of some help! And that's where Elizabeth comes in...

The homeowner's style is elegant, rustic, and classic. This is her formal living room so she wanted to put a little more elegance into this room, all while maintaining warm approachability. She wanted people to think, "Oh what a beautiful room," but not be scared to sit in it.

"We mixed an elegant velvet on the sofa with a seagrass rug. The mirrored coffee table also adds another dressy element," says Elizabeth.

But before any sample pulling began, Elizabeth found this gorgeous Carol Sneed painting, above the mantle, to use as her jumping off point. Elizabeth says, "We pulled the whole room together around this painting!"

Design by Elizabeth Gullett at SummerHouse | Ridgeland, MSElizabeth wanted everything in this room to be classic, without anything trendy, so this room would be beautiful for years and years. She and the homeowner, however, did include some ikat pillows on the sofa since that's one thing that can easily be switched out (should ikat  go out of style anytime soon!)

Let's take a quick inventory of textures in this space:
Linen, silk, velvet, wood, glass, mirror, and seagrass. "Even though the colors are all pretty neutral, this room is super interesting because of all the texture," Elizabeth says about this great, comfortable, elegant formal living room.

A Beachy Before + After

How about a great BEFORE + AFTER to get you through the rest of the day?

SummerHouse Designer Elizabeth Gullett was approached by a client who was in need of a bedroom update.
This client was in love with a particular bedroom pictured in Coastal Living and asked for Elizabeth's help in giving her bedroom a similar feel.

[caption id="attachment_779" align="aligncenter" width="350"]BEFORE BEFORE[/caption]

Elizabeth says, "The feeling in that picture was great. It was the exact feeling we wanted to achieve-- fresh and beachy and clean. But the client's house is very refined with lots of antiques. If we did the same look in the picture, it wouldn't have flowed with the rest of her house. We took the feeling in the picture and made it applicable to her home."

The client, whose home is located in the beautiful Annandale neighborhood of Madison, said the project turned out even prettier than the picture! She was so happy, which of course left Elizabeth with a huge smile on her face!

Glenway Home BEFORE + AFTER

We've got another beautiful before and after to share with you! If you missed the B+A from earlier in the week, be sure to check it out!

This project is entitled Glenway Home on the Interiors section of the website. Here's the before:

[caption id="attachment_469" align="aligncenter" width="409"]Glenway Home BEFORE BEFORE[/caption]

We asked Lisa to tell us a little bit about this space and what the client was looking for. Here's what she said:

The client wanted a comfortable space for TV viewing and casual entertaining. She originally wanted to paint the stack stone fireplace but I was in love with it and thought it was just the texture interest the room needed. That really was my inspiration for the choosing the colors and finishes.

She purchased the 2 sofas from me years ago so we just made washable slipcovers for them. I also repurposed her large square coffee table. The size and shape were perfect, but it had a dark brown furniture finish that wouldn't be right. So, I had it chalk painted and installed a Phillip Jeffries grasscloth quarter turned in 4 quadrants on the top. It turned out perfect!

All of the other elements of the space play into the natural, clean, earthy modern feel that the room turned out to have. The client and her family love it!

{{ let's update, shall we? }}

We've got a very inspiring BEFORE & AFTER to show today! It is amazing what a great design mind (which would be Lisa's mind, to be precise!) and a few new things can do for a space!

All of these rooms are in the same house, and all of them turned out just beautifully! This particular client wanted to update her home, keeping some of her favorite pieces while adding some new ones. Take a look at these before and afters!

[caption id="attachment_417" align="aligncenter" width="500"]Bedroom AFTER Bedroom AFTER[/caption]

The rich new wall color, the lighter/brighter bed, bedding, and drapery, and the punchy pillow make SUCH a difference in this bedroom!

[caption id="attachment_420" align="aligncenter" width="500"]Foyer AFTER Foyer AFTER[/caption]

New wallpaper, a custom light fixture, a new buffet, and some updated accessories take this entry from drab to exciting and welcoming!

[caption id="attachment_423" align="aligncenter" width="500"]Living Area AFTER Living Area AFTER[/caption]

What a dramatic change! The updates Lisa did to this space opened up the room while simultaneously making it feel much warmer. Cleaner lines, simplification of pattern, and just an overall cleaned up new scheme make all the difference in this beautiful living area!

The client's daughter actually painted the beautiful piece of art over the love seat, which was the starting point for the sunroom. The wall, the floor, and the furniture were all changed to bring this space into modern times! We love the deep turquoise chair and pillows that ground the space. Just gorgeous!

Lisa's Office: Before and After!

We had a pretty exciting transformation at SummerHouse recently! The "before and after" took place in the office of our leader and head designer Lisa Palmer! As you can see in the "before" picture, her office is brimming with creative ideas, magazine clippings, and bits of many different projects. Loaded with cool stuff, yes. But organized? Not quite...

After some new wallpaper, some hard work, and a little organizing and rearranging, Lisa has herself a brand new office! It almost doesn't even look like the same space! Take a look...

Looks great, doesn't it?!

So, remember the cute puppy from the last post? His name is Ringo and he's the newest addition to one of our own's families! He came up for a visit and was there just in time to hop into a picture with Lisa during the informal photo shoot we had going on! Here are Ringo and Lisa just having a good ole time! :)

What's your favorite part about Lisa's new office?

A Beautiful Before and After

[caption id="attachment_464" align="alignright" width="168" caption="Betsy Pevey"][/caption]

Designer Betsy Pevey and one of her favorite clients Marsha have been working together for over a year now pulling together a new look for her home. Here's what Betsy has to say about the project:

Marsha wanted to do a total updated  and fresh look.  The last time she had decorated was about 11 years ago.  She and I worked so great together.  She did want to keep her area rug, so we softened the palette around the colorful rug which has teal, gold, sage and salmon in it. Some of the art was re-matted and reframed.  She purchased some new art also.  My favorite piece is the hide ottoman in the center of the living room which she uses as her cocktail table.  Marsha is a wonderful client to work with.  We are currently working on guest bedrooms and an upper landing area which serves as a small den.

Here are some before photos to give you an idea of what Marsha's space looked like before...

Now here are the AFTER photos!

Beautiful job, Betsy! What a difference! We can't wait to see the next phase of before and afters!

Behind the Scenes: Eastbrooke Photo Shoot

Y'all have seen this house before. It is our most dramatic Before and Afters to date (which you can see here) and the customer holds an extra special place in our hearts! Rachel Kabukala, who has sort of become our house photographer!, was over there taking pictures the other day. We can't wait to show you the finished products! Until that time, here are a few behind the scenes shots...

This house is so beautiful, and the colors make it so photogenic! We'll post the finished pictures as soon as we can! Have a fabulous Wednesday!

Before and After: A Masculine Study

Here is another remarkable before and after by Lisa Palmer! This study was sort of the "catch-all" room for this beautiful house Lisa has been working on.  When these customers told Lisa that their house was going to be on tour for a fundraiser, we realized that we had a lot of work ahead of us!  One thing that bothered Lisa about this room in the beginning was the color of all the wood in the space.  Lisa enlisted the help of our wonderful faux finisher Virginia Weathersby to liven up the wood and make the color a little richer.  It made such a difference! All new furniture, drapery, a new rug, and newly organized bookshelves all come together to make a very impressive "after!"

[caption id="attachment_2285" align="aligncenter" width="600" caption="AFTER"][/caption]

This study/office is now a functional, beautiful, warm, masculine space that the family can fully enjoy.  What do you most love about this room?

Before and After: Guest Bedroom

Here is a great before-and-after for you to study over the weekend!  This guest bedroom has undergone a major transformation!  The customer loved the big bronze boxed pillows, but was ok with getting rid of all the floral bedding and freshening up with something crisper and cleaner. This room was also in dire need of new side tables and matching lamps! The walls were empty, so art was also a must.  Phyllis over at View Gallery knew exactly which pieces of art to use in this room!

[caption id="attachment_2211" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="BEFORE"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2210" align="aligncenter" width="640" caption="AFTER"][/caption]

The new Ann Gish bedding (note the silk bronze ribbon on the sheets-- GORGEOUS!), Oly side tables, and big old-looking lamps made such a difference!  Look for several more before-and-after's in the very near future... We have some really good ones in the works! :)
